Theme: “In April: fly high with your words”
Eligibility:
The Student Poetry Contest is open to all students enrolled in grades 9-12th.
Each entrant may submit one poem of no more than 20 to 30 lines on the subject
and in any style, except concrete (shape poems), provided that the content of
the poem is not vulgar or offensive, does not employ profanity, and is the
original, individual work of the entrant.
Contest
Dates: Poems are accepted until the 7th April 2015.
Selection:
Poems are judged based on originality, creativity, and artistic quality. Poems not meeting the requirements for line
limitation are automatically disqualified. Poems containing profanity,
vulgarity or offensive material are automatically disqualified. Entries are
judged anonymously, and the name and address of the poet should not appear on
the manuscript. The poem should be handed to the English teacher in an envelope
containing the student’s identification (Name, number and class).
Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are selected
in each of four divisions (Division 1 - Grade 9 -10th, Division 2 - Grades
11-12th. Each winner will receive an evocative gift and a Certificate of
Achievement.
Decisions:
The panel of judges consists of members of The English teachers’
department. All decisions made by
the judges are final.
Notification: Winners are announced on 17th April 2015.
Winners are notified by an English teacher or email. Names of the winners and their respective
poems will appear on the school website.
